Growing Healthy Kids
One Garden At A Time

It began back in 2011, when Slow Food East End joined with the Joshua Levine Memorial Foundation to host a fundraiser to honor the legacy of young farmer Josh Levine. Since then we have hosted A Moveable Feast, an annual Spring event to raise money to help support Edible School Gardens.

These gardens have brought joy and learning opportunities to thousands of children across the East End. But school gardens don’t just grow vegetables. School gardens grow healthy kids, one garden at a time! Now garden-grown vegetables are beginning to be served in school cafeterias, wellness and healthy eating are being taught in our schools, and chefs are coming into the classroom to teach cooking – all because of the support of the wonderful food community here on the East End and supporters like you.

Please join us for A Moveable Feast at Dodds & Eder on March 25th to help us sustain and grow more than 25 local school gardens across the East End. You’ll have the opportunity to meet and chat with some of the East End’s best chefs and beverage purveyors, while moving from station to station and feasting on their latest culinary creations. There will be some rockin’ music that will get you up on your feet and the silent auction featuring items donated from local farms, fishermen, restaurants, vineyards and merchants on the East End and beyond. It is the best of the East End…. all in one place!

Sponsor a Teacher, Farmer, Fisherman or Forager: $100 per sponsorship. Teachers play an integral role in the Edible School Garden Program by working closely with our Master Farmers in creating the garden education curriculum. It’s a wonderful opportunity to recognize the individuals who are committed to nurturing “healthy kids.” Sponsoring a Farmer, Fisherman or Forager will allow us to invite some of the folks who grow, catch, hunt or gather our food. It’s a great opportunity to show your appreciation to the people who provide us with such magnificent local food.

Thank you for your continued generosity and support. We hope you can join us on March 25th for a wonderful evening of food, drink and community.

Thank you Dodds & Eder for generously donating the venue again this year!

Please Join Sam Kass and Richard McCarthy

Sam Kass

Sam Kass, Food Entrepreneur, former White House Chef and Senior Policy Advisor for Nutrition under the Obama administration will discuss Growing Healthy Kids, Healthy Communities and the Future of Food. Richard McCarthy, Executive Director of Slow Food USA will moderate. Come be part of the discussion.

About Sam Kass
Samuel David Kass worked at the Obama White House from January 2009 to December 2014. He served as President Barack Obama’s Senior Advisor for Nutrition Policy, as Executive Director for First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! Campaign, and as an Assistant Chef.

In July 2015, NBC announced Sam’s appointment as a senior food analyst, charged with covering topics such as healthful eating, food trends and policy on all platforms of NBC News. He is involved in many other initiatives involving nutrition, health and sustainability. Kass launched a food technology company, TROVE, in January 2016, an investment, strategy, and communications consultancy created to “work with corporations both big and small who are serious about transforming our health, climate and planet through food.”

The World Economic Forum (WEF) named Kass to its 2017 Class of Young Global Leaders, intended to recognize people under the age of 40 who the WEF considers to be “pushing boundaries and rethinking the world around them.”
