A Moveable Feast Sponsorship

Growing Healthy Kids
One Garden At A Time

It began back in 2011, when Slow Food East End joined with the Joshua Levine Memorial Foundation to host a fundraiser to honor the legacy of young farmer Josh Levine. Since then we have hosted A Moveable Feast, an annual Spring event to raise money to help support Edible School Gardens.

These gardens have brought joy and learning opportunities to thousands of children across the East End. But school gardens don’t just grow vegetables. School gardens grow healthy kids, one garden at a time! Now garden-grown vegetables are beginning to be served in school cafeterias, wellness and healthy eating are being taught in our schools, and chefs are coming into the classroom to teach cooking – all because of the support of the wonderful food community here on the East End and supporters like you.

Why Should You Help Grow Healthy Kids?

A School Garden is a happy place for kids. It’s also a place where kids are inspired to learn the habits of healthy eating that will last them a lifetime.

Slow Food East End, in partnership with the Joshua Levine Memorial Foundation, provides support to School Gardens throughout the East End. Our young farmers who grow the veggies and pull the weeds learn that eating real food is an important part of life. Kids are truly amazed how the earth beneath their feet makes food. They have the fun and we get the satisfaction of seeing young lives changed for the better.

But School Gardens don’t grow by themselves. Over the last eight years, Slow Food and the JLMF have taken on the responsibility of teaching healthy food choices by planting and sustaining 25 local school gardens across the East End and bringing chefs into the schools – all because of the support of the wonderful food community here on the East End and supporters like you.

Now is your opportunity to help us continue growing “healthy kids.” We are seeking Sponsors and Donors for the Silent Auction at our annual spring fundraiser, A Moveable Feast. We know that there are many demands for your generosity and support, but we can promise you that your gift of Sponsorship or Silent Auction Donation is a two way street. Those excited faces running into that magical patch of ground that you helped realize will be payback enough… much more than the tax benefit you’ll derive.

Our eighth annual event, A Moveable Feast, will take place on Sunday, March 25th at Dodds & Eder in Sag Harbor. More than 25 East End chefs and wineries showcase their best food and drinks. Everything is donated and all funds go directly to support school gardens.

Slow Food East End is an all-volunteer local chapter of Slow Food USA. The East End of Long Island has one of the most successful school garden programs in the country – and we want to keep it that way!

We hope you will join us as a Sponsor or Silent Auction Donor of this event.

Letters of Appreciation

School Garden Mini-Grant Recipients – Letters of Appreciation:

From The Peconic Community School:

Dear Slow Food East End,
Thank you so much for the recent Josh Levine Memorial mini-grant of $500.  This grant goes a long way to help a small school like ours, do important agriculture education. We purchased an indoor Tower Garden with last year’s grant money, and this year’s grant will help cover the cost as well. The tower garden allows us to grow plants, and herbs all year long. Thank you so much for your good work and for supporting schools on the East End.

After class, the children proudly showed off their “farm stand” which they built and decorated. Every Friday they offer up the weekly harvest in the Peconic Community School parking lot.

Warmly,
Liz Casey Searl

From Eastport Elementary School:

“I wanted to send this note to express my deep appreciation for the grant to support our school garden. Without the support from Slow Food East End, I don’t think our garden would be able to continue to function as a curriculum based garden. We work very hard as a community to maintain the garden and use
it to teach children important lessons, but the grants from Slow Food are critical to our continuing success to provide food for local communities and teach children. Thank you so much,”
