September 23: Walk & Wine at Landcraft Garden Foundation

We are back with another Walk & Wine to celebrate two incredible organizations, Slow Food East End and the Landcraft Garden Foundation.

Join Slow Food East End at Landcraft Garden Foundation for an evening of sipping local wines and strolling through their imaginative gardens on Friday, September 23rd from 4:30 pm to 7 pm. Be inspired and learn more about naturalizing landscapes from the experts at Landcraft who will share tips for pollinator-friendly, biodiverse landscaping best suited for our local ecosystem and your backyard. Ticketed guests are welcome to stroll through the gardens at their own pace and stop along the trails for tastes, sips and chats.

There are four acres of cultivated and naturalized garden spaces to enjoy surrounded by almost 10 acres of natural meadows with mowed paths providing easy access to view native plants and abundant wildlife. Enjoy the garden’s current art installation of 14 sculptures nestled throughout the landscape by artists Sam Moyer and Eddie Martinez who live and work in Orient and New York City.

Tickets include tastings of locally sourced wines from Croteaux Vineyards and Rose Hill Vineyards along with nibbles sourced from Landcraft Gardens’ harvest and a few of Slow Food’s favorite local farmers.

September is SLOW FOOD USA’s membership drive month. During the month of September our chapter, Slow Food East End, the most active chapter in the US, says thank you to our new members and renewing members with a gift of a Slow Food t-shirt! If you renew or sign up to be a member before our event your t-shirt will be available to pick up at Landcraft. Remember SFEE members always get discounts to all SFEE events.

As an added bonus all ticket holders will be entered into a drawing to win gift baskets filled with Landcraft Garden Foundation and Slow Food swag and local wines! You must attend the event to win a basket. This event is co-hosted by Slow Food East End and Landcraft Garden Foundation. Tickets are $65 for members of either organization and $75 for nonmembers (plus the Event Brite processing fee). Ticket proceeds benefit Slow Food Feed the Forks initiatives and the Landcraft Garden Foundation.

The Landcraft Garden Foundation is located at 4342 Grand Avenue, Mattituck.

Located in the heart of the North Fork’s wine region on Long Island’s East End, the Landcraft Gardens were established in 1992 by founders Dennis Schrader and Bill Smith when they purchased 17 acres of land surrounding a 1840’s-era farmhouse. Their initial goals were to create an exuberant garden of unusual or little-known plants, featuring them within a framework of innovative design while also providing an environment for trialing new and exotic plant materials. They wanted it to be an American garden; to be a conglomeration of different styles and influences blending seamlessly to create a garden of unique interests. The garden would exemplify the synthesis of structure, color, distinctive plant material, and composition.
