SFEE Pot Luck at North Fork Flower Farm

Aug 18th – Back by popular demand our Pot Luck dinners return. Meet us in the fields at North Fork Flower Farm to enjoy a tour of their new home and a delicious potluck feast, timed to enjoy a sunset view across the blossoming fields.

Thursday, August 18th, 6:30 pm until 8:30.
48455 Middle Road (CR, 48), Southold, NY 11971

Bring along your favorite dish with at least 8 portions to share for dinner, we’ll sit down together at a long communal table to celebrate our community and this beautiful summer season.

The North Fork Flower Farm broke ground on leased farmland in Orient in 2017 adding locally-grown cut flowers to the ever-expanding agricultural offerings on the East End with a goal of providing florals, herbs, and grasses to individuals via CSA programs and to professionals. Earlier this year NFFF bought 25 acres of farmland in Southold and is now establishing permanent roots. You’ll discover the hundreds of varieties grown, including edible florals, and have a chance to connect with the farmers and learn more about their plans for the future.
Less Waste, More Fun – In an effort to reduce a lot of unnecessary waste—plastic cutlery, paper plates, and disposable cups and napkins that tend to be used once then discarded, we are requesting that you each bring your own table setting as well. Pack yourself a real plate, cutlery, and glassware that you can take home and reuse. Please remember to BYO Beverages.
Once you buy your ticket we will send you a link to register your name and the dish you plan to prepare so we can eliminate over duplication of menu items. We look forward to tasting all sorts of recipes using local produce and locally sourced provisions.

We’d love to create a source list of recipes to share after the event with our community so if you’d like yours to be included, feel free to bring a written copy of it to the Pot Luck.

Thank you for joining us, your ticket purchase ( $30 – discounted to $25 for Slow food members) will help us cover the costs of renting tables/chairs and seed our ongoing Feed the Forks initiatives. We’ll talk more about these efforts when we see you on the 18th!

The event is outdoors in a farm field setting so plan attire and shoes accordingly.
Please reserve your place at our table by August 14.

We are looking forward to seeing you at our table.

After having graduating in 2009, Bogardus studied and worked under the late Gerry Hayden of The North Fork Table & Inn. His next job took him to Palm Beach to work under Daniel Boulud’s Dinex Group. He also studied at Thomas Keller’s French Laundry.

He returned to home to the North Fork Table & Inn and under his direction, the highly regarded restaurant earned positive reviews from The New York Times.

Now he’s back home and the chef at the Halyard in Greenport, the next incarnation of the Soundview, a North Fork institution, which sits right on the water of the Long Island Sound.

What Is Flour Power?

Flour Power is a way members of the community can provide home baked loaves of bread to local food pantries. The idea is to bake four loaves of bread. Keep one for yourself, the other three are donated to the food insecure. The goal is to nourish and bring joy to people through a personal touch.

How Does It Work?

Anyone can register to bake. Simply sign up and we will send the recipe and ingredients list to you. The recipes will make 4 loaves and the plan is for each baker to keep one loaf and donate the remaining 3. There are designated drop off points on the North and South Forks and when you register you will receive dates and locations for drop offs. Loaves will be picked up, packaged and dropped off to participating pantries. Register for this great program here.

I‘d Like to Help But I’m Not a Baker

David Chaffin, board member, is an experienced baker most recently from Amy’s Bread, a renowned bakery. He has worked hard to develop a simple, healthy recipe that everyone can bake, regardless of experience. And it’s fun!!

How Can I Learn More?

A short video has been created with David demonstrating how to bake the bread. He demonstrates each phase of the bread baking process. This is a perfect preparation for your own baking and it can be rewatched at any time. Watch Demo

A Final Thought

This program can only continue with the helping hands of our community. Won’t you please give it a try? Also, if you have friends or contacts that might be interested please forward this information to them. Imagine a network of people showing care and connection through food? That is truly Slow Food!!

Many thanks for your continued support.
